Rotary District
9830 was invited in 2000 through the then Governor, Tony Hennessy
(Rotary Club of Wynyard Tasmania) to become the inaugral naming
rights sponsor of the Rescue Helicopter. The Helicopter has operated
under the control of Tasmania Police since then and has flown hundreds
of missions and saved countless lives. Rotary has received worldwide
praise for its assistance in the early days of the service with
broad media coverage and public recognition. Rotary Clubs in New
Brunswick made a major donation to the Service and two years ago
Rotary Clubs in Japan donated $25,000 to the Rescue Service. The
relationship has been recognized by the then World President of
Rotary Frank Devlyn and in 2002 the then President of Rotary International,
Richard King flew into Hobart and visited the Rescue Base to inspect
the Helicopter. There can be few things more important than the
support of an emergency service that saves lives every week. That
Rotary has been able to be involved as the naming rights sponsor
through the initial years has been remarkable and has brought great
credit to the organization.
